The Aldebaran Park stallions Skyvalley, the leading colonial sire for many years, and Aldebaran Eagle, the premier sire of three-year-olds last season, have started the new year with a bang.

Skyvalley has been represented by winners in three different states headed up by Flash Kyvalley (18 wins), who hoisted a new lifetime mark of 1:56.6 and lifted his earnings to beyond $150,000 with his end-to-end Menangle success.

Other recent Skyvalley winners were Highpoint (Melton), the three-year-old Johnny Six Kids (Bendigo), Minimez (Maryborough) and Patched (T 1:58.7), who brought up his 18th win and boosted his stakes tally past $175,000 at Pinjarra.

Meanwhile, Aldebaran Eagle led in three winners at Melton during January including the Aldebaran Park bred pair Aldebaran Simba (ex Yankee Sister USA), a winner on debut, and Aldebaran Boyd (ex Aldebaran Revenue).

Another winner sired by Aldebaran Eagle was Grand Eagle, who posted his second success from only five starts in New Zealand.

Aldebaran Park bred four individual winners for the month. Besides Aldebaran Simba and Aldebaran Boyd, homebred winners were Aldebaran Floss (ex Another Love), who won in a career-best 1:59.1 at Ashburton in New Zealand, and the Gloucester Park winning pacer Jaspervellabeach (1:56.5, 17 wins, $301,000).

Aldebaran Freda (Muscle Hill–Swede Dreams), a four-year-old mare raced by Aldebaran Park, came from worse than midfield to register her first success at Bendigo.

Skyvalley continues to build on his list of broodmare credits. Recent winners out of his daughters were One Pinevale Hill (1:58.4 at Menangle), Maori Franklin (Melton), Shez Majestic and the dual Globe Derby Park winner Kivici.

On the stallion front the season has concluded and we take this opportunity to thank all broodmare owners for their patronage of our resident stallions Dancinginthedark and Skyvalley, who served in excess of 100 mares between them. We wish all owners every success with their resultant progeny.

Our yearling sale horses who are to be sold at the Nutrien Equine Melbourne Yearling Sale on April 13 and 14 at Oaklands Junction will be bought in to the yearling barn to commence their sales preparation in the first week of February. More details to follow in the February newsletter.

Aldebaran Zeus (1:52.6) has arrived back safely from the USA and is enjoying a well-deserved break at the Brent Lilley stable.

He will start back training in the first week of February and we look forward to his racing again in mid-2024.
