Zeus was the Greek God of the sky and the king of all the Gods.

The equine Aldebaran Zeus (Muscle Hill USA - Zoia Boko Se) assumed the mantle of king of the three-year-old trotters when he led his rivals a merry dance in the Group 1 $50,000 Australasian Premier Trotting Sale Final at Kilmore.

It was the colt’s third success from four starts this season and his sixth overall. He has amassed $75,910 in stakes.

Aldebaran Zeus was bred by Aldebaran Park and is raced by Aldebaran Park principal Duncan McPherson with farm managers Danny and Melinda Thackeray and Tracey Cullen.

He was one of nine individual winners bred off the Nagambie property in Victoria in August.

The other highlight of a busy month was the season’s record-breaking win of the American-bred, Aldebaran Park-owned mare Aldebaran Revani USA (Donato Hanover USA -Coffeecake Hanover USA) at Menangle on August 31. The four-year-old carved out the flying mile in 1:53.9 – the fastest time put up by a trotting mare in Australasia this year.

It was the fourth success on end for Aldebaran Revani USA – by a combined margin of 77 metres - and the sixth of her 15-start career which began at Harrah’s Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the USA in July 2020.

Aldebaran Tess NZ (Muscle Hill USA -Solar Powered NZ) and Aldebaran Knox (Muscle Hill USA - Kyvalley Aldebaran NZ), a pair of four-year-olds bred and owned by Aldebaran Park, both tasted multiple successes recently. The former won three on end including two at Melton, while the latter scored twice off handicap marks at Hamilton.

Other recent Aldebaran Park-bred winners have been the two-year-olds Aldebaran Vera (Trixton USA - Kyvalley Aldebaran NZ) and Aldebaran Misty (Skyvalley NZ - Mason Magic), the three-year-olds Aldebaran Dianna (Father Patrick USA -Bromac Aldebaran NZ), who won four on end at Globe Derby Park, and Kyvalley Heist NZ (Muscle Mass USA - U Dream NZ) and the four-year-olds Aldebaran Stevie (Yield Boko Se-Im Sonialeelee NZ) and Savvy Kyvalley (Andover Hall USA - Aldebaran Dream NZ).

Aldebaran Park is also a part-owner of the highly promising French-bred trotter Holzarte Vedaquais FRA, who established a fresh track record winning at Yarra Valley in Victoria recently.

Rain Mist and Muscle NZ (Muscle Hill USA -October Rain NZ), owned by Aldebaran Park, and Aldebaran Floss (Muscle Mass USA -Another Love NZ), bred and raised by Aldebaran Park in New Zealand, have been nominated for the 2021 NZ 4YO Trotting Mare of the Year and 3YO Trotting Filly of the Year awards respectively.

Skyvalley NZ, the farm’s flagship stallion, enjoyed another productive month with four winners of seven races. They included the three-year-old Mullum Steffi (Albion Park twice), Flash Kyvalley (Echuca and Kilmore), Skybreeze (Globe Derby Park twice) and Aldebaran Misty.

Skyvalley NZ also figured as the damsire of the winner of the Group 1 $50,000 APTS 3YO Fillies Final, Banglez.

In the USA, Aldebaran Park-owned two-year-old trotting filly Aldebaran Acrux USA (Chapter Seven USA – Model Behaviour USA – Muscles Yankee USA ) finished third at her first race start at the Red Mile, Lexington, Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Sermon, a four-year-old brother by Muscle Hill to Aldebaran Park stallion Aldebaran Eagle USA, notched three successes on end, including a career-best 1:52.2 effort at Hoosier Park, Indiana. He has now earned almost $US150,000.

The first foal of the season, Aldebaran Brianna, a Trixton USA filly out of Sundon’s Babe NZ, arrived at the farm in Victoria on August 31.
